Night Lenses

Night Lenses (or orthokeratology) is a hard gas-permeable lens which correct your vision overnight. This means sleeping in the lenses and removing in the morning. These lenses are designed specifically to allow you to sleep in them (which is not possible in most soft contact lenses).

They’re great for many reasons, including water sports! They have also shown to be effective in reducing myopia (short-sightedness) progression in children with many studies backing this.

  • Night lenses gently reshape the front window of the eye (cornea) overnight to correct the vision. The effects of this are temporary, lasting around 24-48hours, meaning you’ll need to sleep in the lenses every night but negating the risk of any permanent damage!

  • Night Lenses are most effective in short-sighted people under -5.50DS, although more recent advancements allow us to potentially correct up to -10.00DS!

There is no ideal age, it’s largely dependent on the person. Kids as young as 6 have been fitted with these lenses!

  • Night lenses have been around in some form for several decades. Many studies show them to have a similar safety profile to daily disposable lenses with proper care and maintenance. The effects of the lens are also completely reversible.

  • Night Lenses are actually one of the most established and researched methods of slowing down myopia. Most studies show around a 50% reduction in progression but this varies between individuals and in some cases, can be even higher!
